History of  SFIC Lay Affiliates

A.  Chapter Resolution on the Formation of the SFIC Lay Affiliates (SLA)

The idea regarding lay associates was first presented by a former SFIC during the 1996 SFIC Provincial Chapter.  The concept paper “Reconnection” submitted by an ex-SFIC, articulated the interest from their ranks to continue sharing the Congregation’s charism and mission even as they had already opted for laicization. As a result,  the 2000 Provincial Chapter approved a resolution endorsing the formation of the SFIC Lay Affiliates (SLA)

B.  Organization of SLA

On  September 9,  2001, the Provincial Board organized the first assembly of  former  SFICs and other interested lay aspirants. A follow-up assembly was held to which various lay aspirants were invited.  Sr. Josephini Ambatali, Provincial Superior, explained the relationship of the SLA to the SFIC. . The intial  group of twenty two (22) members  now meets regularly.  Ms. Maria Lourdes Cipriano serves as its group’s community leader.  A Core Group was formed to attend to the group’s various concerns:  Communication, Logistics, Liturgy, Input, Documentation, Formation and Socialization.

C. SLA Monthly Convocations

The SFIC Lay Affiliates attend a convocation held regularly during the third Sunday of each month.  The proceedings of these monthly convocations are documented in detail. The minutes of the      meetings are read and approved by the members in attendance.  The Provincial Board maintains a record of these documents.

D. SLA Spiritual Formation

To ensure the spiritual formation of SLA members, the Provincial Superior designated a team, composed of Sister Dreena Guerrero and Sister Susan Esmile to take charge of formation.
